Başlık : A Four-Way Szegő Theorem
Özet : Among all monic polynomials of a fixed degree, one may minimize an Lp-norm with respect to a measure or a weighted supremum norm on a compact set. The resulting extremal polynomials include orthogonal and Chebyshev polynomials. A classical problem, going back to Szegő, is to understand how their asymptotic behavior reflects both the measure and the geometry of its support.
In this talk, I will begin with the classical real-line setting and then consider compact sets that may have infinitely many gaps and isolated points. I will discuss normalized extremal norms, usually called Widom factors, and explain how Szegő-type ideas enter their asymptotic study. The emphasis will be on general estimates and on examples illustrating the range of behavior that can occur. The talk is based on joint work with Maxim Zinchenko.
Başlık : A comparison of the homology cobordism group and the Floer local equivalence group
Özet : In the first part of this talk, I will explain why the homology cobordism group is one of the central objects in low-dimensional topology. In particular, I will discuss its significance from both algebraic and geometric perspectives.
In the second part, I will introduce the Floer local equivalence group, defined by Hendricks, Manolescu, and Zemke using involutive Heegaard Floer homology. The same authors showed that there is a natural homomorphism from the homology cobordism group to the Floer local equivalence group. More recently, Dai, Hom, Stoffregen, and Truong used this new group to prove that the homology cobordism group contains an infinite-rank summand.
This brings us to the question of whether the structure of the homology cobordism group can be determined from the Floer local equivalence group. In the final part of the talk, I will give a negative answer to this question by showing that the kernel of the homomorphism between these two groups contains an infinite-rank subgroup. This is joint work with Jaewon Lee (UT Austin).
